Monica was born and raised in St. Joseph, Missouri and returned to the area upon graduating law school in 2016. In August 2020, she joined her dad’s office, the Law Office of Joseph A. Morrey, as a trial attorney handling civil cases.
Monica attended and graduated from St. Joseph Christian Highschool. For college, Monica attended and graduated from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri, where she majored in English with an emphasis in World Literature and graduated Cum Laude with departmental honors in 2011.
After college, Monica deferred acceptance to law school and moved to Colorado where she worked as the Coordinator of Volunteers at Roundup River Ranch, a Paul Newman SeriousFun nonprofit organization for children with chronic and life-threatening medical conditions.
Monica returned to the Midwest in 2013 to complete her studies and graduated from Washburn University School of Law in May of 2016. While at Washburn University, she was a Dawson Scholar and received a three-year tuition stipend. Monica also received top papers in her Writing for Law Practice and Electronic Discovery courses, and served as a Junior Editor on the American Bar Association’s Family Law Quarterly publication. Monica also participated for two years as a team member on Washburn University’s Client Counseling team.
While in law school, Monica worked as a law clerk for Dollar, Burns, and Becker in Kansas City, Missouri, and Federico Consulting, Inc, a lobbyist group, in Topeka, Kansas.
After graduation from Washburn, Monica moved back to St. Joseph Missouri. From 2016 to 2020, she worked as an assistant prosecuting attorney for Buchanan County, Missouri. During this time Monica prosecuted misdemeanor and felony cases on general rotation for three years including trying a number of jury trials to verdict. Her last year was spent specifically prosecuting misdemeanor and felony drug cases. Monica is a fierce advocate and her passion as a lawyer is seeing that justice is done for the marginalized and underprivileged, those most in need.
In January 2023, Monica took office as elected Prosecuting Attorney of Andrew County, Missouri, a part-time position, and continues to practice with her dad in St. Joseph, MO.
